Took me a very long time to master it. All depends on how much heat you apply, where you apply the heat, how long you apply heat and right away cooling the spot down then apply heat again. Use thin bottle not thick bottle. Thick bottle takes a very long time to crack. Start from the middle where the bottle is thiner. Heat the bottle for 20 second then use a Q-tip with cool water (not cold) to make crack appear. Anyway, it is a long process to master it. Just like riding a bicycle. You will fall many times before you ride it Hope these tips help you cut your bottle 🙂

The cutter is diamond disk for rotary tool. You also need soldering iron. Electric tape, marker and a flexible ruler are also needed. You can buy all this from local hardware store or amazon website. Hope this helps

No, i screwed them together to do the outside shape done first. Then unscrewed the two part to get the inside shape done. Once finished, i glued them together

Use cinta y pase su cortador de diamante a lo largo del costado de la cinta. Si usa un disco de diamante como yo, entonces hay menos posibilidades de que la cuchilla se deslice y raye la superficie accidentalmente. No importa qué tan profundo sea el puntaje, siempre y cuando rasques el vidrio es lo suficientemente bueno. Evite hacer puntuaciones profundas o pasar dos veces por encima de la línea ya marcada. Hi Chuck Thank you for watching my video. I have a 25 watt soldering iron and that does the job real good. Things that will help you are listed below. I will also list all the items you will need to do this successfully ============================================ 1- Flexible ruler 2- Electric tape 3- X-Acto knife 4- Dremel rotary tool 5- Solder Iron 6- Protective eye glass 7- Gloves 8- Mask 9- Sandpaper 10- Marker 11- Diamond disk for your Dremel rotary tool ============================================ Important notes: 1- Thicker bottles will need more time depending on bottle thickness (1/8" thick needs around 5 min. for initial crack to appear (If done correctly). 2- Scoring is the key to a perfect cut. Use tape and run your diamond cutter along side of the tape. If you use a diamond disk like i do then there is less chance the blade slip and scratch the surface accidentally. It's not how deep the scoring is as long as you scratch the glass is good enough. Avoid making deep scores or go over already scored line twice. The score line guides the crack and it will follow it. 3- Take your time - Never rush the job even If it takes you 1 hour to draw a perfect score. You will understand why by experience. Rushing is your worst enemy. You get tired? Take a small break, leave and come back later. 4- Have a Q-Tip and some cool water ready (Not ice cold). 5- Once you finished scoring, start heating the bottle where the thickness seem to be less than other areas. (Thinner areas need less heating time). The initial crack will appear sooner on thinner areas which is the middle (where you hold the bottle with your hand). Look at my video and see where I start 6- Move the tip of soldering Iron, don't keep it in a spot for a long time. (About 20 sec. is enough) 7- Use the Q-Top and dip it into cool water, then gently apply it over the heated area over the score line. Crack will start happening when you apply heat then cool it down and repeat this for several times. Make sure the water is not too cold. Glass has it's own rules and react unexpectedly. The area you are cooling down after extreme heat is under stress and may cause the glass to crack suddenly and out of control (Out of control means, you won't know when the crack will happen and in which direction it will go). You will need practice to learn how glass behave. Never expect your first try will be successful. Practice on broken bottles and find out the correct timing. 8- Repeat step 5,6,7 few times until you see the crack. if you do it right, you should see a small crack happening. That tells you that you applied enough heat and enough cool water to the spot. Sudden long cracks means you applied too much heat then cooled it down too fast using cold water. This only comes to you with practice, there are no recipes or exact timing. Again, different bottle thickness has it's own timing. NOTE: After heating, make sure the Q-Tip is not holding too much water. As long as the cotton is slightly wet it is good enough. What you are trying to achieve is a gentle crack and not a sudden crack that goes out of control. You will need to practice and practice until you learn the trick. Just like anything else (Riding a bicycle for the first time, Swimming, and many other things in life) you won't succeed the first time. It will take some time before you learn the "How to". @@CutterMasterArt thanks. I was considering stressing the glass with a coolant but did not see that in your video. I actually followed your video exactly. Other than using a ruler. I've made bullwhips so my taping skills are something I have confidence in. The diamond disks are alot friendlier than glass cutters. I've done strait bottle cuts with a glass cutter and the hot and cold water methods. It's inconsistent because of the sudden shock to the glass. Flat glass is pretty easy even with some radiused cuts

You are correct, I actually found out later that using cool water helps speed up the process. I did not use cool water in any of my videos (learning something new everyday) 🙂 Hot and cold water technique works ok for straight circular cut (even tho sometimes it doesn't do a good job) but not a good technique for spiral cutting. Take a look at my other video, It is called "cross cutting". That one is one step above spiral cutting when you master the technique. Nothing is impossible my friend, only with practice you learn the tricks 🙂

Hahaha, will take you more that "another go" to get one done right, but let me tell you this, if you keep trying and do get one bottle right, the feeling you get worth more than winning a million dollars lottery. The feeling of "I did it" is something similar to climbing Everest when you know, not many people are able to do it. Especially when you do a very clean cut. Watch my video then watch other people videos doing the same thing. TBH, I haven't seen any clean and perfect cutting yet. That gives me that special feeling. I moved on to other kind arts, doing something different but I won't quit unless what i make is perfect to me. Do the same, satisfy your desire to not just accomplish something but doing it perfect. Sorry I replied so late. I am currently out of the country and don’t have access at all times. Actually I use a regular iron. Heating temperature is not as important as bottle thickness and how long you apply heat. The runner the bottle the faster you will see the crack appear. The key is to practice and find the correct heating time. If you search the comments you will find many useful and similar answers I provided to other viewers. Definitely you will brake many bottles before your first successful cut. The key is two things; use thinner bottle and don’t hold the iron in one spot for a very long time. Each bottle has its own timing and the only way to find out how much heat you need to apply is practice. Thank you for watching my videos
